Startup Grants in Hyderabad: The Incentives You Unlock by Registering Your Company
Registering a company is only the first step. For founders in Hyderabad, incorporation is what unlocks a stack of government grants, tax holidays and subsidies – but only if you register the right entity and then secure DPIIT recognition. This guide maps the startup grants in Hyderabad and the central and Telangana incentives your business becomes eligible for once it is registered, with every figure taken from official sources.
Step 1: Register the right entity
Almost every startup incentive requires a recognised legal structure. Under the Startup India framework, an eligible startup must be a Private Limited Company, a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), or a registered partnership firm. A proprietorship does not qualify for DPIIT recognition or the schemes that flow from it, so the choice of entity at registration directly determines which grants you can later claim.
Step 2: Get DPIIT recognition – the master key to startup grants in Hyderabad
Recognition by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) turns a registered company into a “startup” eligible for central benefits. To qualify, the entity must be a Private Limited Company, LLP or registered partnership; be within 10 years of its date of incorporation; have a turnover that has not exceeded Rs. 100 crore in any financial year; be working towards innovation, development or improvement of products, processes or services, or have a scalable business model with high potential for employment or wealth creation; and it must not be formed by splitting up or reconstruction of an existing business. Recognition is free and granted through the Startup India portal.
The tax incentives you unlock
Section 80-IAC: a 3-year tax holiday
An eligible startup can claim a 100% deduction of its profits for any three consecutive assessment years out of its first ten years since incorporation. The Finance Act 2025 extended eligibility to startups incorporated on or before 31 March 2030. The turnover ceiling is Rs. 100 crore, and the deduction is not automatic: the startup must hold a certificate of eligible business from the Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB) in addition to DPIIT recognition.
Angel tax abolished
The “angel tax” under Section 56(2)(viib) – which taxed the premium a company raised from investors above fair market value – has been abolished for all classes of investors with effect from FY 2025-26 (1 April 2025), as announced in the Union Budget 2024.
The funding schemes: grants and guaranteed credit
Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS)
The Seed Fund Scheme provides up to Rs. 20 lakh as a grant for validation of proof of concept, prototype development or product trials, and up to Rs. 50 lakh for market entry, commercialisation or scaling up through debt, convertible debentures or debt-linked instruments. It is disbursed through approved incubators, and applicants must be DPIIT-recognised and incorporated not more than two years ago at the time of applying.
Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS)
The Fund of Funds for Startups is operated through SIDBI and does not invest in startups directly – it invests in SEBI-registered Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), which in turn fund startups. It began with a Rs. 10,000 crore corpus, and the Union Budget 2025 announced a fresh Rs. 10,000 crore Fund of Funds.
CGTMSE collateral-free credit
For debt rather than equity, the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) enables collateral-free lending. The guarantee cover was enhanced from Rs. 5 crore to Rs. 10 crore with effect from 1 April 2025. Accessing it requires Udyam (MSME) registration.
Beyond money: other DPIIT benefits
Recognition also brings self-certification under specified labour and environmental laws, public procurement relaxations (such as exemption from earnest money deposit and relaxed prior-turnover and experience norms on the Government e-Marketplace), and intellectual property support, including rebates on patent and trademark filing fees and fast-tracked patent examination.
Telangana state support for Hyderabad startups
Alongside the central schemes, the Government of Telangana runs its own ecosystem. T-Hub is a leading Hyderabad startup incubator supported by the state. WE Hub is India’s first state-led incubator established exclusively for women entrepreneurs. TS-iPASS provides single-window, time-bound industrial clearances. Because state incentives and policy are revised periodically, confirm the current Telangana policy terms before relying on any specific subsidy.
How the pieces fit together
The practical sequence: incorporate the right entity, obtain Udyam (MSME) registration, secure DPIIT recognition, apply for the Section 80-IAC tax holiday through the IMB, approach an approved incubator for the Seed Fund, use CGTMSE for collateral-free debt, and tap Telangana support such as T-Hub or WE Hub.
Important caveats
DPIIT recognition makes you eligible; it does not guarantee funding. The Seed Fund is competitive and routed through incubators, the 80-IAC tax holiday needs separate IMB approval, and scheme terms and figures change with each Budget. Always verify current guidelines – check the official Startup India portal and the Income Tax Department site.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need DPIIT recognition to get startup grants in Hyderabad?
Yes. Most central benefits – the Section 80-IAC tax holiday, the Seed Fund Scheme and angel-tax comfort – flow from DPIIT recognition, which itself requires a Private Limited Company, LLP or registered partnership.
Does DPIIT recognition guarantee funding?
No. It makes you eligible. The Seed Fund is competitive and disbursed through incubators, and the tax holiday requires a separate Inter-Ministerial Board certificate.
Can an LLP claim the Section 80-IAC tax holiday?
Yes. The 80-IAC deduction is available to an eligible startup that is a company or an LLP, provided it is DPIIT-recognised and holds an IMB certificate, is within the 10-year window, and stays within the Rs. 100 crore turnover limit.
