Hyderabad Now Has Three Municipal Corporations — Is Your Trade Licence With the Right One?
Need a trade licence in Hyderabad? Since 2026, Kondapur and Gachibowli fall under Cyberabad Municipal Corporation. Who issues it, renewal dates and penalties.
For years, every Hyderabad business owner knew the drill: trade licence from GHMC, renew before the year ends, done. Then, in February 2026, the city’s civic map changed. Hyderabad’s core urban area is now run by three municipal corporations — GHMC, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri — and a café in Kondapur or an office in Madhapur now deals with Cyberabad, not GHMC.
The short answer: a trade licence in Hyderabad is the municipal permission to carry on a trade or business at a specific premises. You take it from the municipal corporation where your premises are located, it runs for a calendar year, and it must be renewed every year before the deadline — late renewals attract a penalty of 25% or 50%, and trading without a licence attracts more.
Which corporation covers your area?
| Area | Municipal corporation (from February 2026) |
|---|---|
| Kondapur, Gachibowli, Narsingi, Kokapet, Miyapur (Serilingampally zone) | Cyberabad Municipal Corporation |
| Madhapur, Hitech City, Kukatpally (Kukatpally zone) | Cyberabad Municipal Corporation |
| Nizampet, Kompally, Jeedimetla | Cyberabad Municipal Corporation |
| Khairatabad, Charminar, Secunderabad, Himayatnagar and the core city | GHMC |
| LB Nagar, Uppal, Malkajgiri | Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation |
Ward and circle boundaries are still settling in. (Confirm your premises’ corporation and ward from your latest property-tax receipt before applying.)
Who needs a trade licence?
Any business that carries on a trade from a premises within municipal limits — shops, restaurants and cafés, cloud kitchens, salons, gyms, clinics, warehouses, manufacturing units and commercial offices. It is separate from GST, FSSAI and Shops & Establishment registration; you usually need all of them.
How to apply — step by step
- Identify your corporation and ward (table above).
- Collect documents: ID and PAN of the owner or authorised signatory, rent agreement or ownership proof, the owner’s no-objection letter, the latest property-tax receipt for the premises, photographs of the premises, and your company or firm documents.
- Apply online through the municipal portal or at a MeeSeva centre, and pay the fee. The fee depends on the type of trade and the premises (such as area and the road it faces). (Confirm the fee for your trade category on the portal.)
- Inspection: a municipal official may inspect the premises before the licence is issued.
- Display the licence at the premises and diary the renewal.
Renewal: the dates that matter
Trade licences run for the calendar year (1 January to 31 December). For the 2026 licence year, GHMC announced this schedule:
| When you renew | Penalty |
|---|---|
| By 20 December 2025 | None |
| 21 December 2025 – 19 February 2026 | 25% |
| From 20 February 2026 | 50% |
| Trading without a licence | 100% |
Expect a similar schedule for 2027 licences to be announced towards the end of 2026 — now likely by each of the three corporations. (Confirm the 2027 dates when notified.)
